The protein powder I use after working out is the GNC Pro Performance Whey ISO Burst All Natural protein powder. Protein is necessary to stimulate muscle growth leading to improved strength and optimal performance in the gym. Whey protein is beneficial in the sense that multiple organs, neurotransmitters, hormones and enzymes need the protein macronutrient to conform to its high performing standards at all times. However, it is important to take into account the downside of utilizing this supplement if not used appropriately or as instructed. Whey protein escalates the release of anabolic hormones to encourage muscle growth, such as insulin, as suggested by Health Line. When blood sugar spikes insulin is secreted to regulate the blood sugar and therefore may result into weight gain rather than muscle development and fat loss. Whey protein is most beneficial for individuals who require a post-workout supplement or after performing intense physical activity for a prolonged duration. Relative to many types of protein, whey is most effective considering the acidic properties of the stomach providing a rapid release of amino acids to be dispersed throughout the body compared to casein, a slow digestive protein.
